Most sub-Saharan African countries are multilingual. Hence, multilingualism is a feature of many schools and classrooms. An additive approach to multilingualism has been proven to be the most appropriate in this context. The book is divided into 3 sections: the first section is theoretical and describes the theoretical foundations of multilingualism in education and the promotion of additive multilingualism; the second section presents case studies to demonstrate evidence-based strategies for learner and learning support, and the final section provides sample lesson plans in different content areas that are suitable for teaching in multilingual classrooms.
